Small business website design, from £249

A proper website for your business, hand-built in clean code rather than dragged together in a page builder. Fixed price agreed before I start, typically live in a week, and the whole thing belongs to you at the end.

What you actually get

> Every build is written by hand in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. There is no WordPress underneath, no theme, no page builder and no stack of plugins waiting to break. That is why these sites load almost instantly, and why they keep working when nobody is maintaining them.

> Included as standard on every package, and not counted against your page limit: a privacy policy, a cookie policy, terms and conditions, a cookie consent banner, an XML sitemap, a robots.txt file and submission to Google Search Console. These are the things cheap builds quietly leave out, and the ones that cause problems later.

> You also get the domain and DNS set up properly, HTTPS, and hosting configured on Cloudflare's global network so the site is fast wherever your customers are.

Who this is for

Trades and sole traders

Plumbers, electricians, joiners, gardeners, mobile mechanics. Usually one to three pages: what you do, where you cover, and an easy way to get hold of you. See the sole trader page.

Shops, salons and studios

Salons, barbers, gyms, cafés, groomers, therapists. Opening hours, services, prices, photos and directions, laid out so a customer on a phone finds what they need in seconds.

Consultants and services

Bookkeepers, coaches, surveyors, small agencies. A credible, professional presence that explains what you do and turns enquiries into conversations.

Replacing something older

Already have a site that is slow, dated or stuck on a platform you cannot edit? I rebuild it and redirect the old pages so you keep your search rankings. See moving off WordPress.

What it costs

> Three fixed packages, priced by how many pages you need. Starter £249 covers one to three pages and suits most sole traders. Growth £499 covers four to seven pages and adds a contact form with email delivery and analytics. Business £999 covers eight to fifteen pages with deeper SEO work and handover documentation.

> The price you are quoted is the price you pay. There is no hourly creep and no surprise invoice at the end. If what you need falls outside the three packages, say so and I will scope it and quote it separately.

> There are no required monthly fees. Managed hosting is available afterwards if you would rather not deal with it, but most people take the code and host it themselves using the written guide I provide. Not sure what any of this should cost? Read how much a website costs in the UK.

How it works

01

Brief

Tell me about the business, what pages you think you need, and a couple of sites whose look you like. A few sentences is enough to start.

02

Quote & scope

I come back within 24 hours with a fixed price, what is included and a realistic timeline. Nothing starts until you are happy with it.

03

Design & build

I build the site and send you a live preview link. You give feedback, I adjust. No account managers in between.

04

Launch & handover

Domain, DNS, HTTPS and hosting set up, the site submitted to Google, and the code handed to you. Small tweaks are free for 14 days.

Common questions

A Starter site of one to three pages is typically live in five to seven days from the point I have your content. A Growth build of four to seven pages is usually around two weeks. Business-tier projects are quoted with their own timeline. The usual delay is waiting on text and photos, not the build itself.

A short description of the business, the pages you think you need, any text and images you already have, and ideally a couple of websites whose style you like. If you have no copy written, tell me and I will help shape it rather than leaving you staring at a blank page.

No, that is the easy case. I point your existing domain at the new site and set up DNS, HTTPS and any email records so nothing breaks. If you do not have a domain yet, I will help you choose and register one in your own name.

Yes. Every build is designed for phones first, because that is where most small business traffic comes from, then checked on tablet and desktop. It is tested at real screen sizes before launch rather than assumed to work.

Yes, outright. Once the project is paid for, every line of code is yours with no licensing and no lock-in. You can host it yourself, hand it to another developer, or ask me to manage it. That choice stays with you permanently.

You will need a domain name, typically around £10 to £15 a year, and hosting, which on Cloudflare is usually free at small business traffic levels. My monthly support packages are optional extras, never a requirement, and you can take the code and walk away at any point.
