Website speed and health audit

If your site feels slow, is not showing up on Google, or you simply do not know whether it is any good, I will check it properly and tell you what is wrong in plain English. £100 to £200 depending on how many pages you have, with the problems ranked by how much they actually matter.

  • ✓ £100 to £200, fixed
  • ✓ Plain English, not a tool dump
  • ✓ Reply within 24 hours

What gets checked

Speed & Core Web Vitals

Real load timings, Largest Contentful Paint, layout shift and responsiveness, measured on both mobile and desktop rather than guessed at.

Mobile experience

How the site behaves on a phone: tap target sizes, readable text, horizontal overflow, and how far a visitor must scroll before reaching the point.

Technical SEO

Titles, descriptions, heading structure, canonical tags, sitemap, robots.txt, structured data, redirects, and whether Google can index you at all.

Accessibility

Colour contrast, keyboard navigation, image alt text and form labels. This is both a legal consideration and a straightforward usability win.

Security & headers

HTTPS configuration, security headers, mixed content, exposed versions and out-of-date dependencies that are quietly putting you at risk.

Conversion basics

Whether a visitor can tell what you sell, how quickly they reach a price, and how easily they can contact you. Often worth more than any technical fix.

What you get back

> A written report, not a screenshot of a scoring tool. Anyone can run an automated test. The value is in knowing which of the forty things it flagged actually matter for your business, and which are noise.

> Each finding comes with what is wrong, what it costs you in plain terms, and what fixing it involves. Everything is ranked so you can start at the top and stop whenever you like. Where a fix is something you can do yourself in ten minutes, I will say so rather than quoting you for it.

> If you want the fixes done rather than explained, I will quote for that separately once you have seen the report. There is no obligation, and the report is yours either way.

What an audit costs

> Audits are priced on the same page bands as my website packages, so you know the cost before you ask.

  • £100 — 1 to 3 pages
  • £150 — 4 to 7 pages
  • £200 — 8 to 15 pages

> That is a one-off fee covering the full check and the written report. Larger sites are quoted individually, and if your site falls awkwardly between bands I will tell you which one it sits in before you pay rather than after.

> Fixing what the audit finds is quoted separately once you have seen the report, so you are never committed to the repair work just because you wanted the diagnosis.

What usually turns out to be wrong

> Enormous images. Easily the most common. A photo straight off a phone at several megabytes, scaled down in the browser rather than resized properly. One afternoon of work often halves a site's load time.

> Too much code for the job. A page builder, a theme and a stack of plugins all loading on every page, including pages that use none of it.

> Nothing above the fold. Visitors arrive and cannot tell within a few seconds what you do, where you are, or what it costs, so they leave. No amount of speed work fixes that.

> Indexing problems. Sites that cannot rank because of a stray noindex tag, a blocked robots.txt, duplicate pages competing with each other, or a migration done without redirects.

Common questions

It is priced by the size of the site, using the same page bands as my website packages: £100 for one to three pages, £150 for four to seven, and £200 for eight to fifteen. That is a one-off fee for the full check and the written report. Larger sites are quoted individually, and fixing what is found is quoted separately after you have read the report.

Usually two to three working days from the point I can access the site, depending on how many pages there are. If something urgent turns up, such as the site being blocked from Google entirely or a security problem, I will tell you straight away rather than waiting for the finished report.

For most of it, no. Speed, SEO, mobile, accessibility and security can all be assessed from the public site. Access to Google Search Console or Analytics makes the findings sharper because I can see what is actually happening, but it is optional and view-only access is plenty.

If you want me to. The audit and the fixes are priced separately and deliberately so, because the report is useful on its own and you may well have someone who already maintains the site. If you do want the work done, I quote for it once you have seen what is involved.

It is one factor among many, and it is not the biggest. Content relevance matters more. But speed affects whether visitors stay, and on mobile a slow site loses people before the page even appears, so it affects your results whether or not Google is counting it directly.

Yes, any platform. The checks are the same because they are about what the site actually sends to a visitor rather than what built it. On a hosted platform some fixes will be limited by what the platform allows, and I will be clear about which recommendations you can act on and which you cannot.
